Angela J. Carter
Angela Carter brings more than 20 years experience in journalism and corporate communications to A.C. Communications & Consulting. As well, she has gained valuable insight into the nonprofit sector through many years of voluntary service in Barbados and the Greater Toronto Region.
Her goal is to assist small businesses and nonprofit organizations to better understand where they want to go and the best way to get there.
A strategic thinker with strong organizational skills, Angela has developed and executed plans for clients in various sectors including financial services, media, manufacturing and nonprofit. She knows the importance of planning and communications; however, she also understands that it’s not always easy for a small business or a small nonprofit agency to allocate the resources that are so crucial to managing the process.
Prior to establishing her own consultancy, Angela was employed at CIBC where she held a variety of communication and marketing positions in human resources, smart cards, merchant cards and the credit cards division. Previously, she was a journalist with the Nation Publishing company in Barbados where she performed a number of roles, including editor of the Weekend Nation and the Visitor Magazine.
Angela has written for a number of publications including the New York Times, the Richmond Times Dispatch, Share, Air Canada's En route and BWIA's Caribbean Beat. In addition, she has contributed to a book on Barbados entitled, Insight Guide: Barbados.
She is a member of the International Association of Business Communications (IABC), the Association of Professional Fundraisers (APF), the Brampton Board of Trade, the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB), and the Multicultural Inter-Agency Group of Peel (MAIG). She is currently enrolled in the Maytree Foundation's Leaders for Change program for 2004-2005.
Angela's community involvement includes serving on the board of directors at the United Achiever's Club of Brampton and the United Achievers Non-Profit Housing Corp., and on the management board of a condominium corporation. She is currently the chairperson of Telecare Distress Centre Brampton, where she also served on the distress lines. In addition, she is a Trustee at the Central Park Baptist Church and a member of the United Way of Peel Region's Training and Consulting Committee.
She brings to her business a strong code of ethics, a sense of social responsibility, a disciplined approach to getting the job done, enthusiasm and fervour, and respect for her clients’ vision and values.
